Puberphonia and other voice problems
We are treating puberphonia and other voice problems.
Changes in voice quality refer to alterations in how a voice sounds and is perceived. The main aspects that can change are:
Pitch
Change in the fundamental frequency of the voice (higher or lower). Common during puberty, aging, or voice disorders.
Loudness
Variations in voice intensity or volume, either weak or excessively loud.
Timbre (Quality/Color)
The characteristic tone of the voice, which may become:
Breathier
Rough or hoarse
Strained
Harsh
Resonance
Shift in where the voice seems to vibrate:
Oral
Pharyngeal
Nasal (hypernasality or hyponasality)
Stability
Voice may become unstable with:
Pitch breaks
Tremors
Voice cracks
Clarity
Reduced clarity due to poor articulation, excessive breathiness, or strain.
Register
Inappropriate use of vocal register (e.g., persistent falsetto instead of modal/chest voice).
Endurance
Early vocal fatigue, reduced ability to sustain speech.
Projection
Difficulty projecting the voice despite effort.
These changes may occur due to physiological factors (puberty, aging), functional voice use, psychological factors, or voice disorders affecting the vocal mechanism or resonance tract.

Puberphonia AI
👨⚕️ Dr. M. Kumaresan — Profile & Contributions
Dr. M. Kumaresan is an ENT surgeon with extensive clinical experience, based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. He has built a global reputation in the diagnosis and treatment of puberphonia — a functional voice disorder where an individual (typically a post-pubertal male) continues to speak with a high-pitched or juvenile voice.
🧠 Clinical Achievements
World-record clinical experience in puberphonia, having treated 1,650+ patients with his methodology.
Originated his treatment focus at Stanley Medical College, Chennai after a tragic case involving a young patient who faced bullying due to his high-pitched voice — motivating Dr. Kumaresan to find effective treatments and raise awareness.
Developed a grading/voice index to characterize severity of puberphonia across patients.
Authored multiple research articles and is in the process of writing textbooks on the condition — addressing a gap in available global literature.
🗣️ Treatment Philosophy
Dr. Kumaresan’s method:
Focuses on uvula manipulation to re-pattern the vocal tract and facilitate low-pitch voice production.
Emphasizes habituation training (voice retraining) post-manipulation so patients can sustain their natural low-pitched voice.
Advocates group therapy to boost confidence and peer learning.
Treats puberphonia not just at the laryngeal level, but considers the pharyngeal vocal tract dynamics as crucial — an insight informed by his clinical observations and inspiration from anatomical symbolism (e.g., temple art indicating ear-throat connections).
🤖 AI in Identification & Treatment of Puberphonia
Dr. Kumaresan is integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into his work in two main areas:
🔍 1. AI for Early Identification & Voice Assessment
He aims to develop AI systems that can:
Analyze voice recordings to detect puberphonia characteristics automatically.
Provide quantitative voice metrics (e.g., pitch, spectral features) that help classify severity and monitor progress.
Potentially enable remote screening, expanding access for patients who can’t visit in person.
This involves training models on a database of puberphonic and normal voices to identify discriminative patterns typical of the condition.
🧠 2. AI Tools for Clinical Decision Support
Dr. Kumaresan is exploring:
AI-based decision aids that assist clinicians in choosing the most suitable treatment pathway based on voice data and patient characteristics.
Tools that can track therapy outcomes over time, giving objective feedback to both doctor and patient.
Collaborative projects with medical engineering and bioengineering students to prototype and refine these AI models for real-world use.
His vision is not just diagnostic automation, but a system that augments clinical judgment — ultimately shortening the time to diagnosis and improving treatment effectiveness.
🎯 Future Vision
Dr. Kumaresan’s long-term goals include: ✔ Scaling AI-assisted puberphonia screening globally
✔ Publishing comprehensive clinical and technical literature
✔ Training surgeons and engineers in combined clinical + AI methodologies
✔ Creating online platforms that democratize access to puberphonia care

Puberphonia treatment
Puberphonia Treatment by Dr M Kumaresan 9841055774
What is the problem?
Puberphonia is a condition where a boy’s voice does not change after puberty and remains high-pitched or female-like, even though the vocal cords are normal.
Is surgery needed?
❌ No surgery
❌ No medicines
❌ No hormone treatment
What is done in our treatment?
✔ We help the voice shift from the throat (larynx) to the pharynx and uvula, where the natural male voice is produced.
How is it done?
Gentle uvula and pharyngeal stimulation
Simple breathing and voice guidance
Voice is corrected naturally, not forcefully
The patient hears his original male voice immediately
How long does it take?
Voice change is often immediate
Treatment is completed within 5 days
No hospital admission
Is it permanent?
✔ Yes, in most patients the corrected voice is permanent
✔ Especially when done at the right age
One-Line Message
“Puberphonia is not a disease of the vocal cords.
It is a voice usage problem—and it is curable without surgery.”
“High-pitched voice after puberty?
Vocal cords are normal.
Treatment is available.
Voice can change immediately.”
“Our method redirects phonation from a laryngeal pattern to a pharyngeal–uvular resonance. The larynx is normal; the problem is functional. Uvula manipulation and resonance correction produce immediate pitch lowering.”

UMAR treat puberphonia
puberphonia (also known as functional falsetto or mutational falsetto) is a functional voice disorder, a misplaced or habitual misuse of the voice-producing mechanism, rather than a structural or organic defect. : It is highly treatable, primarily through UMAR therapy, which helps the individual find and use their natural, lower-pitched voice. 9841055774
